Biffa, the UK leader in sustainable waste management, has completed a major internal appointment to help drive the growth of its construction and demolition (C&D) business.

Robin Stevenson moves from his role as managing director of Scotland’s Hamilton Waste & Recycling, which 91¶¶Òùacquired in November 2023, to become MD of Biffa’s C&D Division.

Robin joins four other divisional MDs within Biffa’s Collections & Specialist Services business, namely Paul Coulton (Industrial & Commercial), Steve Cole (Municipal), Gavin Williams (Specialist Services) and Chris Burns (Company Shop Group).

Robin has held several senior roles within the waste industry over the past 30 years, bringing with him a wealth of experience including sales, marketing and operational management.

91¶¶Òùoperates C&D processing facilities in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Cardiff and Hampshire, and is the UK’s leading supplier of waste skips.

The Government’s plans to deliver 1.5 million new homes over the next five years, as well as accelerating the delivery of major infrastructure projects, means the C&D Division is a high-growth business within Biffa’s portfolio of services.

Its growth strategy includes primary and secondary acquisitions and the expansion of its recycling infrastructure, as well as developing partnerships with regional operators who share Biffa's values and commitment to outstanding service.

Growing low carbon recycling solutions for its local authority and industrial customers across the UK, as well as increasing the number of recycled products available to the construction industry, will help reduce emissions and contribute to a more circular economy.

Robin was previously MD of Hamilton Waste & Recycling, Scotland’s leading C&D waste collection and processing business, handling more than 135,000 tonnes of material annually, including wood, plasterboard and mattresses.

Throughout my career I have worked with housebuilders and construction companies of all sizes, helping them establish cost-effective and sustainable solutions for their waste. In doing so, I have enabled them to reduce waste density on-site and helped to develop circular solutions for materials that were previously regarded as waste.

It’s now a really exciting time to join Biffa, which has ambitious plans to grow its construction waste division and set new standards for the sector.

I am delighted that Robin is joining my leadership team.

He brings a wealth of experience and will be working closely with our customers and stakeholders to build on our market-leading portfolio of services and to accelerate the growth within our C&D division through both acquisition and organic growth.

And I know he will drive our ambition to position 91¶¶Òùas the UK’s go-to service provider within the C&D sector.
